What Is “Twilight Factor”?
This is a mathematical calculation based on a scope's objective diameter in relationship to its power range. The end result is a number that can be used to compare the light transmission capability of different models. For example, our 2-8x42 has a twilight factor of 18.3 at 8 power, while the 2.5-10x56's twilight factor is 23.6 at 10 power. This means that the 2.5-10x56 is actually brighter than the 2-8x42. This difference cannot be seen by the naked eye in daylight; only as light fades to darkness in the evening. You would not be able to see the crosshairs of the 2-8x42 for quite as long as those of the 2.5-10x56, although the difference is only a few minutes. All of this would occur about an hour after sunset.

KAPS variable power scopes
All KAPS scopes are built with the reticule located in the first focal plane. This reticule placement guarantees that point of impact will never change across the entire magnification range, a problem common to lesser scopes.

The reticule appears to increase in size as you increase magnification, but in fact the reticule remains in exact proportion to the target. For example, if the reticule covers 1/2 inch at 100 yards set on 2.5 power, at 10 power it still covers only 1/2 inch of your target.

"What scope is right for me?" The answer is, it depends.
· It depends upon the game you will be hunting, for one thing. If it is dangerous game at close ranges that could make you the hunted instead of the hunter, a short focal length scope like our 1–4 x 22 is ideal. Its wide field of view allows you to pick up your target quickly. You don't want to have a scope set on 12 power when an angry buffalo is approaching at full speed ten yards away.
· For all-around shooting, consider our 1.5–6 x 42 or 6x42. 1.5x is perfect for close shots in thick forest and bush, while 6x gives you plenty of magnification for shots to 250 yards or longer.
· If you tend to hunt open country, or game typically requiring longer shots, you'll need higher magnification levels, such as our 10x50, 10x56, 2.5-10x50 or 2.5–10x56.
· If maximum light transmission is critical, for example when hunting from a blind, or if you can legally hunt after dark,
· It depends on your budget. If most of your shooting is done at consistent distances, consider one of our fixed power scopes. Simple and rugged, they allow you to experience KAPS' acclaimed quality and brilliance at less cost than a variable scope.
· It depends on your rifle, too. The largest objective lenses or a very short scope may not mount properly on an unusual rifle. Flat-shooting high-velocity calibers will generally benefit from higher-magnification scopes. Conversely, large-caliber double rifles and bolt actions designed for close shots require short focal length scopes.
· Keep in mind that all scopes look relatively bright in the middle of the day. The true quality of a riflescope becomes apparent at last light or, in the case of KAPS, even after dark.
